To say she was nervous would be an understatement. After living here in Seattle for only a few days, Marie had somehow managed to audition and set a key position on the side-stage as one of the acts to perform at a major music festival in the city. To get a gig like this only a few days after coming to town was amazing for someone as new to the music scene as she was. While she was back in Boston, she had written a few songs and had written out some music to go along with many of the songs. This lead her to make a song about her experiences with Sterling, her lost love who she forced herself to leave. He had bigger things ahead of him than her, and she knew thinking about him right now would kill her mood before this performance.

Before she knew it, it was time to go out on stage and sing in front of tons of people. She ran her hands down her purple dress to make sure there were no last second wardrobe malfunctions and looked at her hair in the mirror, and made sure the gold bracelet Sterling gave her for her birthday a few years ago was securely fastened around her wrist. Marie grabbed her mic from the sound guy standing near the entrance to the stage and ran out, careful not to trip, saying into the mic, "Hi everyone! How's everyone doing today? You all having fun?" The crowd screamed happily back in reply, leaving Marie to continue on with her pre-singing routine. "Well my name is Marie and I'm going to be singing a little song I wrote a while back about my boyfriend from high school before he became my boyfriend. Do you guys mind if I sing it for you?" Getting a good response from the crowd, Marie waited for the musicians to begin playing and started to sing into the microphone.

"I threw a wish in the well,
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell,
And now you're in my way"

She started singing, looking out at the sea of people in the audience who were staring at her as she began to sing, probably making a judgement of whether her song would be good or not.

"I'd trade my soul for a wish,
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this,
But now you're in my way"

Marie walked around the stage a little bit, waiting for the chorus to actually dance around. As she looked out into the audience again, she couldn't help but notice a certain pair of brown eyes in the audience. "it couldn't be him," she thought to herself as she continued to sing.

"Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?"

It had to be him. She would know his eyes anywhere. How did he find her? It had been a month since she had left home, and hadn't left a clue to where she was going. Marie didn't let this realization show much on her face because she wanted to have the perfect performance. If Sterling was here in town, he would eventually find her, so she needed to utilize the time she had now to enjoy whatever good performance she could get out of herself till their encounter.

"Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,

All throughout the song, Marie danced around and got the crowd involved in the performance as much as she could. People were bouncing up and down as they danced happily to her song. She was so glad people were receiving her well and that her performance had not had any kinks. When the song came to the last verse, Marie stood in the center of the stage, staring out at the sea of people for the final time.

She froze in the same position at the end of the song with the mic at her side, signaling the end of the song. The crowd cheered loudly, which made Marie tear up a little bit, but other than that it was an amazing experience. Waving to the crowd and thanking them one last time, Marie left the stage and went back into the green room area, taking one final glance out at the audience to see where Sterling was in the sea of people but she couldn't see him anymore.

One month was all it took for Sterling to already miss Marie; it seemed like a year since she let him and without even a trace to and that just really broke his heart. He knew that his heart had shattered when he learned that she wasn’t anywhere around and she didn’t even tell him she was leaving. It was probably the first time he had ever cried, he was so in love with her and was even still and she just left him. He didn’t understand what he even did wrong, their relationship just seemed so perfect but he guessed in a way it couldn’t have been if she left. She wouldn’t have ever left if she was happy, but the question was why wasn’t she happy? Sterling always tried to be a perfect boyfriend to her and he always thought that he was, he bought her flowers, made sure she always knew that she was loved and that he was so in love with her and then just this happens. He just didn’t seem to understand why she would be so unhappy with him for so long and never say anything, did he do something wrong he always seemed to think.

Maybe that was why he came here, he had hopes of finding her and he just had to find her in his complete and total desperation. He was desperate and his heart was aching so here he was in Seattle at a music festival, in fact he was performing here as well but later on. Standing in the crowd at some point he heard a voice singing and blinked, that voice sounded so familiar and glancing on stage he spotted her, it was Marie. “MARIE” he tried to call out but he was still too far so he tried so hard to get up to the front and tripping on the process, standing and brushing his self off he continued through the front noticing the bracelet still on her wrist tears filling his eyes. She kept the bracelet he thought just continuing, only problem was by the time he got to the front she was already finished. “MARIE WAIT” he could out to her, he just had get to her.

It had been one long, tiring month since she had actually seen his face. A picture of them as a young couple in high school was in the locket on her bracelet she wore nonstop, but other than that she had really missed seeing those eyes. Of course she regretted leaving him alone, but at the time she had no idea what else to do. How did you explain to someone you are madly in love with and who is madly in love with any small child he encounters that you killed his baby? She knew she should have came to him with the information that she was pregnant but at the time, she felt like she had no one to turn to. Without her mom, Marie was left to pretty much fend for herself. When she first started dating Sterling, she had no idea who to ask questions about boys to because she was sure her father would have overreacted and hit her or something.

As soon as she stepped off the stage, she went back to where her things were and grabbed her messenger bag that doubled as a purse and as a storage bag for all of her things she needed to perform (small sewing kit, cough drops, water, vocal tuner, etc). Marie didn't want to spend more time than necessary in the green room, even though her performance had been on the better side out of other performances she had done over the years. Without thinking, Marie left the backstage area through the side door that was closer to where the large audience was standing, watching other people perform on the stage Marie had only moments ago just left.

As she walked across the grass and glanced at the audience, she couldn't believe who had made his way from his location during the show to the side of the audience that he would now have easy access to get to her without the walls of the stage in his way. All she could do was stare at his beautiful face, seeing the tears that had formed recently and were beginning to make themselves more defined in his eyes. It hurt to know that she had caused him enough pain to actually make him cry, but at the same time she tried to make up some kind of lie to make herself feel better, pretending that he was also crying because he must have loved her performance so much. If only lies could actually be the truth.

She had heard him yelling her name faintly over the roar of the crowd as she had left the stage and could only assume he actually wanted to see her. Why would someone like him who she had hurt so much want to see her after what she had done? He didn't even know the whole story; she knew he would hate her forever once he found out. Marie was not sure of what to do next: stay and confront him now and be ready for the talk or wait until he tracked her down somewhere in the city and be surprised by his appearance? Marie wanted so badly to be back in his arms, but she wasn't sure if he would actually hug her after everything she had put him through over the last month. She simply stood in her spot about 20 feet away from Sterling, waiting to see if he noticed her and staring at him and all his beauty that she had missed over the last month. It had only taken one day after she had left to realize the boy, or man now, she was looking at was the man she was meant to be with for the rest of her life. But would he accept her even after the huge mistake she made?
