It was a beautiful day to be at the library, in all honesty, and there was nothing Nakita loved more than to read. Especially the fantasy books that were spiced with the perfect pinch of romance. She smiled, as she opened the door. The musty smell of books greeted her, and her bright blue eyes lit up. She couldn't stop the shiver of excitement that traced up her spine. It was how she always felt about books. Plus, what was better than reading? To escape into your own world and live there until the book closed. It was bliss, even if Nakita was the only one who felt this way.
She crossed down the aisle marked fantasy and began to trace a dainty, pale finger down the spine of the books. She searched the titles, pulling several off the shelves to read the backs or front covers, wherever the summary of the book was located. Many she pulled from the dusty brown shelves for enticing tales about werewolves or vampires. A few were about angels and demons, and she even found a couple about dragons. However, when it came to her books, she was picky. For one, they had to be modern-ish. Two, they had to have twists to keep her guessing. Three, they had to be long. Five-hundred plus pages at the least. She finally found one that caught her eyes. Nightshade. It was about wolves. Directly next to it, she found the other books in the sequel. Satisfied with her choice, she went up to the librarian.
"Excuse me?" She said. Her Russian accent catching the woman off guard. "I need to check our these two book, please." She said. The woman peered at her with deep brown eyes, still shocked. She carefully took in Nakita's petite frame, scene kid dress, and bleach blonde hair before her eyes settled back on Kita's heart shaped face. She seemed to be lost in her crystal blue eyes. "Madam?" Nakita said. The woman shook her head to break herself of the trance and wordlessly took the books off the counter top. She ran them under a bar code reader, typed something into her computer, and Nakita slipped the woman her library card, which she ran under the bar code scanner as well.
When the woman handed the books back, Nakita smiled, nodded a thanks, and crossed the sea blue carpet to a six seater table, where she opened the first book, and let herself get lost among the pages. This was typical of her, and those who knew her always knew exactly where to find her. In and out of school. Nakita was the type to skip school, just to come to the library. Which usually resulted in her brother showing up, saying their parents were looking for her, and an argument later on that night. Not that it ever changed anything. Reading was her escape, and even her parents couldn't take that away.
