OH DAELYN SANTANA RYLEY
I don't care what you think, as long as it's about me!

Appearance;
Daelyn is a slight boy who seems way too small for his age. Indeed, he's often mistaken for being a freshman because of his petite figure. He's only five foot six and weighs 100lbs which puts him at underweight for his size and age. Though, it's not as though he does this purposely. He's always been a thin, frail child because of undernourishment by his madre back in Spain. He's still quite handsome though. Actually, there has been times when the small boy is confused for a girl because of his high cheekbones and narrow waist. The boy is so small he wears a ladies' 5-6 and can easily fit into a kid's 4-5 (large) shoe.
His skin tone and hair color vary by the season. He's never dyed his hair and it's naturally a medium-dark brown in color. But in the summer, the more he is outside, it lightens up and has natural 'highlights'. His skin is paler in the fall and winter, giving him a mildly Latino appearance, but the more exposed he is to the sun the harder it is to distinguish his true race. He's had many different groups, Latinos, Greeks, Blacks, all come up to him and ask if he's one of them. Which does help when he is trying to blend into different ethnic groups.
As for clothes he's a mixture of metro and indie. He loves second hand stores, and on his limited income it's basically all he can afford. He has an eye for mixing together unusual patterns and things that otherwise wouldn't seem like they go together. He loves tees and jeans paired with basic converse or sneakers. Though, when he can afford to splurge, he'll go to the mall and pick out one or two 'statement' pieces that he can wear. He doesn't dress up often since he can't afford to go anywhere nice. He does take time to meticulously style his hair and applies eyeliner to frame his caramel-brown eyes. He also loves hates, especially slouchy beanies and fedoras. One thing he is rarely seen without is his black rosary. A remnant of his childhood in Spain.
Personality;
When one first meets Daelyn Ryley they'll find he's quite a likeable person. He's a friendly enough kid who seems at ease no matter the situation. He has a passion for life and seems optimistic on the surface. He's very child-oriented and seems at the top of his game whenever he gets the opportunity to help them. Little kids flock to the quiet, petite boy like moths to a flame. He's also passionate about art and it shows. He's been referred to as a 'prodigy' by several well-known artists but his insecurities have prevented him from truly excelling. It's not uncommon to find Daelyn setting up in the park and painting or carrying around a sketch book and a pencil.
Though, as with everyone, Daelyn has his weaknesses. Daelyn has a major issue with failure. It's not that he fails people often, but rather, that he is so scared of failing people that he will do whatever it takes to not do so. He'll send himself into a 'tizzy' over it, obsessing over if someone is mad at him and do anything he can to make people proud of him. He's gullible and vulnerable, caring enough to the point it's become dangerous for him. He's been beaten up, nearly taken advantage of, and hurt many times because he trusts so easily and falls for people's lies. Another major issue for Daelyn is cheating. Again, it's not that he wants to cheat. He's just a compulsive cheater. It's like a klepto, he just can't stop! Then when he hurts someone he'll beat himself up for weeks. He cannot, despite how badly he wants to, commit to just one person.
Daelyn is a hopeless romantic though and extremely sweet. He's a follower who adapts well to any situation or person. Though his fear of thunderstorms is crippling. He's also frightened of birds due to an attack on him by a crow when he was three. He's a genuine boy who is known for being a survivor despite harrowing circumstances.
History;
Daelyn Santana Merjos was the second-born child of Elena Merjos and a man whom Elena has refused to speak of. He left when Elena was five months pregnant with Daelyn. When he was born it was evident from his birth he was going to be a sickly child. His mother gave most of her food supply to his older sister Alana. He suffered after he was born, too. Since his mother was so poor the foodstamps barely supported the family. He was taught from a young age, along with his sister, that they had to work on local farms and steal from the marketplace to make ends meet.
When he was four his mother met an abusive man named Anthony Nunez who impregnated his mother two years later. Little Joey was born and Tony did all he could to support his family. Though with three kids all under the age of 10 and his own alcoholism problems the family still struggled. Tony was abusive to his mother only and many a nights he would come home hot and tired from a day of working a farm or stealing to see his mother being beaten up. Four years after Joey was born his mother gave birth to another little boy named Julian. The family now struggled even harder to make it.
His mother gave him a rosary for his sixth birthday as well as a little stuffed dog he named Rojo. The rosary served as a sort of security blanket as he stole from the marketplace. When he was seven he collapsed one day out of heat exhaustion. He was carried to the hospital and he claimed to be an orphan. His tattered clothes and severely underweight body gave them no issue believing his story. He was shipped overseas with eighteen other kids to a small orphanage just outside San Antonio where he learned English.
He was enrolled in school as well as began undergoing medical care. He was given food and clean clothes and lots of loving attention. The little kids flocked to him and he became everyone's big brother. Shortly before his ninth birthday he began complaining of pain in his neck. A small lump was discovered and he was taken to the doctor. After lots of testing he was found to have Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Cancer. He underwent chemo therapy and managed to come into remission.
At eleven he left the orphanage and spent some time in a few foster homes in upstate New York before he was placed into yet another orphanage. Despite all this he kept chipper and upbeat and survived. At thirteen he had a relapse of the cancer and nearly lost his life three times during the course of chemo and radiation. At fourteen he was introduced to the Ryley family of Brooklyn NYC who were looking to add another child to their home. He spent a year with the family and their 10 year old daughter and newborn. The two girls became very attached to Daelyn.
It was when he was fourteen that his serial dating began. It was a compulsion he couldn't control and he was unable to remain faithful to anyone. At first he tried to convince himself he was just skittish in relationships, but eventually it became overwhelming. It was like he was just not able to keep one relationship at a time. This broke many hearts, including his own, and caused him a lot of anxiety due to his fear of failure. Eventually, as the years went on, he became slightly less tough on himself about it.
He was slow to learn things about his younger adoptive sister he didn't like. She was a psychotic, mentally disturbed girl who would do anything to make sure she was the center of attention. Once even punching herself in the eye and saying their foster brother did it. At his fifteenth birthday he was given a piece of paperwork by his foster parents that read that he had been formally adopted by them. The shy, impish boy sobbed uncontrollably, feeling loved for the first time in his life. Ever since he's been known by Ryley as his last name.
That fall Allyson had a mental snap. She wasn't the focus of attention anymore since Daelyn's formal adoption and Daelyn's anxiety at school as well as with his relationships caused him to begin having panic attacks. Allyson went to Lilah, sobbing and saying that Daelyn had been.. touching her. Something Daelyn, being such a child-oriented person, would never, EVER do. Immediately he was approached by a very angry Lilah. She screamed at him and cursed him. When Vernon got home a few hours later the reserved man snapped and beat Dae till he was black and blue.
That night he packed all his belongings, managing them in one duffel bag and his backpack, and left. He slept in an alleyway and tried to figure out his next move. Finally, after a few days of sleeping on the streets, he knew he needed to get out of town. He began hitch hiking and eventually landed in Seattle a month ago, just after his seventeenth birthday. He's currently homeless and sleeping under a bridge. He's been trying to figure out how to make money, though has plans to stay in Seattle. [/size]

Daelyn is a really sweet, caring boy. He'd easily make friends since he can adapt so well to any given situation. He's pretty easy to love and is known for being loyal to a fault. Open for plotting!

You see, Dae is a serial dater. He cannot stay committed to anyone for a length of time, at least not monogamously, but he definitely wishes he could. He's single right now with being new and all but I'd love for him to have a few boyfriends/girlfriends to fall for! Open for plotting!

Spurned lovers, angry exes, bullies? Yep, yep, and yep! He's not a violent guy by any means. I mean, look at him! But he's sure to be a prime target for bullies as well as pissing off people he is in relationships with. Open for plotting!
